We are pleased to announce the Rexdale New Grower program at our programming site located at Woodbine Racetrack (“Woodbine Cares Community Garden”). Happening during this late spring and summer , this series is made up of 8 workshops that are 2-hours long. These workshops feature a variety of hands-on experiential learning for new gardeners and growers.
There is space for 15 participants* for each workshops and this is a drop-in program so you can come to one or even all of these workshops. We decided to split up these 8 workshop into two blocks as it provides a break during the hottest parts of the summer. The four late spring workshops: Seedlings and Plant Propagation, Bed Prep and Soil Health, Greens and Microgreens, Indoor and Outdoor Mushroom Production. The four summer workshops: Harvest Day and Guided Tour, Hot Crops: Eggplant, Peppers and Tomatoes, DIY Amendments and Organic Garden Fertility , Organic Pest Management and Native Pollinator Habitats
Sundance Commons is an agricultural non-profit and aspiring community land trust providing the tools needed for new farmers to succeed in the community. We envision a regenerative and food-secure world where the equity and agency of farm workers is centered. We provide the tools, guidance and land access for new farmers facing barriers to entry in the agricultural sector and land access more broadly at no cost to program participants. The Commons was started to meet the needs of new farmers who would like to start their own farm enterprises with community support, with an emphasis on urban and peri-urban locations. We have multiple incubator sites within the Greater Toronto Area in which farmers who face barriers can get access to farming plots.
*This program is not suited for children as we use tools such as pruners and it's a working farm.
If you have any questions please email Cheyenne at programming@sundancecommons.com
This is a free program to attend. This program is being supported by TRCA’s Rexdale SNAP’s Urban Agriculture Implementation Initiative, which is funded through Toronto Pearson.
