All Europe is going through extraordinary emergency issues the past years. This project focuses on engaging young and elderly people, families, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities, long-time residents in being prepared to handle emergency situations.
We designed EM-CITY project to promote social cohesion among different groups in the local communities in case of an emergency, giving emphasis to young people, believing that if properly sensitized and involved, can play a pivotal role in facilitating the procedures and relations amongst ALL citizens.
In the context of management science, emergency management refers to managing emergency actions, personnel, and activities by applying the knowledge of management science, in particular, to know exactly what to do and adopt the optimal and most cost effective management methods in the case of an emergency. An
emergency management system consists of four stages:
Preparedness, Response, Recovery, Prevention (Mitigation).
The training will involve 4 thematic:
1. Introductory: Introduction to the project, theoretical background, stereotypes
2. Civil Protection: hierarchy and chain of command (local and national), glossary about emergency and civil protection, potential hazard in the local area, circle of disaster, how to behave during emergency situation.
3. Volunteerism: principle of volunteers, limits, mandate and expectations, community organization and dynamics, taking imitative, what can happen to people during an emergency (PTSD, emergency psychology), being an interactive bridges within my community.
4. Cross Cultural Communication: culture and language, identity of a community, communication inside the culture and between the cultures, stereotypes, negotiation
