Music Education and SEL During COVID-19: Resiliency and Empathy Now More Than Ever - By Scott Edgar
SEL is only possible in person and we should not focus on this online during the COVID-19 Disruption.
I need to choose between teaching my students music OR SEL-I can’t do both at the same time.
What is the best way to help our students organize their time?
A. Prescribe an exact schedule for every student to follow.
B. Suggest self-management techniques such as goal-setting and predicting the amount of time a task will take.
C. Encourage students to take time to reflect upon the time of day they are most productive (morning vs. nigh person) and schedule critical tasks during that time.

The following strategies help facilitate resiliency:
Teaching students short- and long-term goal setting.
Teaching students to self-assess.
Address the concept of catastrophic thinking.
All of the above
Pretending to be happy and trying to be “strong” is healthy for us and our students.
