NSF S-STEM Green Building Scholars Program - 2017-18 Masters

This one-year, $8,000 scholarship is for incoming graduate students who will be in their first year of the M.Arch. in Architecture OR M.S. in Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering at Portland State University who are interested in taking coursework and exploring careers related to green buildings. As buildings consume 41 percent of the energy and are responsible for 40 percent of all carbon dioxide emissions in the USA, it is important to understand how buildings use resources and how people - architects, engineers, contractors, owners and users - must work together to reduce this environmental impact. As a Green Building Scholar, you will take coursework in building science, have access to tours of local architecture and engineering firms, and a faculty mentor to help you make decisions about potential courses and careers. These scholarships are a part of a larger program, and students who receive one of these scholarships will act as mentors for undergraduate students in the program.

To receive this scholarship students must (1) be a US citizen, permanent resident, national or refugee, (2) be a full-time student (3) have a 3.0 GPA or higher, (4) complete the FAFSA and demonstrate financial need, (5) must be in the 1st year of pursuing a M.Arch in Architecture OR M.S. in Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering (6) take approved green building courses as electives during the 2017-18 academic year.
