Your son and you are invited to attend our EMBODI (Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence) Conference on Saturday, October 24, 2015, from 8:30am to 4:00pm at Dickinson Hall on the campus of Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC). Sponsored by the Charlottesville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the 100 Black Men of Central Virginia, this one-day conference will be a continuation of the message we conveyed to our African American young men in our 2011 EMBODI Conference. We want to reiterate that they are assets to their communities. We want to share our message as broadly as possible with seventh through twelfth grade African American males and so we welcome all young men who wish to attend without regard to academic achievement. This conference is free to both you and your son.
All young men in grades 7–12 from schools in the cities of Charlottesville, Harrisonburg, Staunton, and Waynesboro and the counties of Albemarle, Augusta, Buckingham, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, Madison, Nelson, Orange, and Rockingham are invited and encouraged to attend. Our goals are to inform the young men and their families of the importance of: (1) completing high school even as they identify and overcome any obstacles encountered; (2) embracing positive and effective social behaviors that serve them well as young men; and (3) maintaining a healthy lifestyle and positive self-esteem. Our intent is to motivate and educate these young men to be the best they can be in order to own their own futures.
