Yá'át'ééh!

Hello and welcome, my name is Matthew Young and I am Navajo.
I am currently a third-year pre-dental student at the University of Washington studying Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology.

Previously, I acted as the artist, making stickers, a booklet, and certificates, and the college-student perspective for the program in the last year. This year, I will be taking on the additional role of being the student lead for this project, so I am excited to lead Inspire Healers from a virtual program into a physical one towards spring 2022.

As a college student who is preparing to apply to dental schools, I have had experiences with looking for scholarships, finding community, and being involved with programs that enrich my overall college experience and make me a better candidate for dental schools.

I am sure that through this program you will leave each session inspired knowing that there are native health professionals working and that you are capable enough to reach those same heights.

The mission of the Inspire Healers program is to increase Indigenous representation in health care professions. We aim to this accomplish this goal by introducing Indigenous high school students to the University of Washington School of Dentistry, and by empowering Indigenous students to become the next generation of healers and change makers.

Throughout the program, students will engage virtually (on Zoom) and participate in activities designed to increase readiness for college and health care careers. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in panel discussions hosted by Native healthcare professionals and college students.

This program will have monthly virtual sessions taking place January through April 2022.

We look forward to meeting you!
