B. ELIGIBILITY 1. Senior Thespians in the current school year of 2017-18, graduating Spring, 2018.2 Thespians must be in good standing with their troupe & a paid delegate of the 2017 Festival. 3. Thespians with a GPA of 3.0, based on a 4.0 system, at the time of Festival 2017.4. Thespians majoring in theatre or communications after high school graduation.
APPLICATION PROCEDURES 1. Application & fee deadline is September 30, 2017.2. Provide 15 copies of a detailed résumé of your experiences (specific information provided below,) and a current photograph, no smaller than 3” x 5”when you arrive at festival.3. Provide one letter of recommendation from your Thespian Troupe Director.4. Prepare an audition piece or technical portfolio. (specific information provided below.)5. Participate in an interview. **Scholarships may not be given to anyone other than the original recipient.**
AUDITION CATEGORY DEFINITIONS AND GUIDELINES Acting/Musical Theatre: Perform either two contrasting monologues from published literature or one monologue and up to 64 bars of a musical selection. A total of 2 minutes is allowed. No props or costumes are permitted, but a chair will be provided. Thespians auditioning should provide their own pre-recorded or digital accompaniment. No a cappella performances, please. Performance Interview: Thespians applying for the scholarship, will be interviewed by the committee following their performance. Technical: A space will be provided to lay out your portfolio, designs, renderings, plots, books, picture, etc. to illustrate your expertise in technical theatre. In the form of a 1-minute introduction, you should be prepared to discuss your previous work, the productions you have worked on and your expectations of future theatre work. After this, the Adjudicators will interview each applicant on the portfolio. The time limit will be 5 minutes per Adjudicator for the interview.
Resume: Each resume should include the following information: 1. Theatre performances – including play title, role/duty, producing organization, and year 2. Theatre courses, workshops, and training. 3. Additional training - vocal music, instrumental, etc. 4. Theatre honors and awards. 5. Thespian Troupe participation - community service, troupe activities, etc. Note that students awarded a KTS Scholarship should be prepared to perform his/her audition piece or display the technical portfolio in the Showcase at Closing Ceremonies.
