Legacy Schools - Registration Form
Our Legacy School program is a national initiative to engage young people in acts of reconciliation through education and awareness of the history and impact of the residential school system as well as current challenges facing Indigenous youth. Educators please complete and submit the registration form to become a Legacy School.
In becoming a Legacy School, educators commit to:
1) Using Secret Path as a teaching tool (included in the toolkit) in your classroom/school with the support of the Legacy School Toolkit and resources.
2) Inspiring your students to engage in acts of reconciliation through continued awareness and education.
3) Supporting your class in fundraising for local Indigenous organizations, initiatives and DWF, creating reconciliACTION events (at least one of which should take place during the Annual Downie Wenjack Secret Path Week, which takes place annually from October 17-22).
4) Participating in follow up engagements with DWF to share information about the impact of the Legacy Schools Toolkit and reconciliACTIONS. These resources will be used to inspire others to take action on our path to reconciliation, actively trying to achieve the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s: Calls to Action.
