PLEASE READ AND SIGN THE WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY

The Local Government Commission (LGC) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to build livable communities and local leadership, and who oversees CivicSpark, an AmeriCorps program dedicated to building capacity for local governments to address climate change, water resource management, and access to opportunity issues. By signing below, I, the Volunteer (or the Volunteer’s legal guardian, on the Volunteer’s behalf), agree that:

1. Policies and Safety Rules: For my safety and that of others, I will comply with CivicSpark andLGC’s volunteer policies and safety rules and its other directions for all volunteer activities. If Ibecome aware of any hazardous condition or danger, I will alert the CivicSpark Fellows and LGCstaff (if present).

2. Awareness and Assumption of Risk: I understand that my volunteer activities with CivicSparkmay have risks associated due to my own actions or inactions, or the actions or inactions ofCivicSpark, its fellows, directors, managers, employees and agents, other volunteers, and otherspresent at CivicSpark’s volunteer engagement events.

3. Waiver and Release of Claims: I waive and release any and all claims against: CivicSpark, LGC,and all associated persons, including the owner or owners of premises on which CivicSpark eventstake place, for any liability, loss, damages, claims, expenses and attorneys’ fees (collectively,“Liabilities”) resulting from death, or injury to my person or property, caused by or arising directlyor indirectly from my presence at a CivicSpark volunteer engagement event, regardless of thecause and even if caused by negligence, whether passive or active. I agree not to sue any of theReleased Parties on the basis of these waived and released claims. I waive the protections ofSection 1542 of the California Civil Code, which provides that a general release does not extend tocertain claims not known to me at the time I signed this waiver and release.
I understand thatCivicSpark would not permit me to volunteer without my agreeing to these waivers and releases.

I, and parent/legal guardian (if volunteer is under age 18) have carefully read this release and understand and agree with all of its terms and conditions.
