Responding to a disclosure of sexual violence can have a powerful impact on a person. How you respond matters, and this workshop will help you build skills for listening and responding appropriately, kindly and supportively. You’ll learn about the resources available on campus, so that you can confidently refer people, and you’ll learn some important principles of how to listen so that survivors feel safe, heard and supported. We will also discuss some of the common responses people have to hearing upsetting stories, and how to care for yourself. We will practice these skills in a safe and confidential environment, and hope that you leave this workshop feeling more confident and more able to support survivors of sexual violence in your community.
This workshop will be offered by the Sexual Violence Prevention and Support Centre, a new tri-campus initiative designed to better address and respond to sexual violence affecting the U of T community.
