Litter on our roadways and in our public spaces washes into stormwater drains, entering local creeks, rivers and waterways. Litter not only damages the environment and affects our enjoyment of activities, it is also deadly to marine and wildlife.
By volunteering with Keep Queensland Beautiful, you are sending a clear message to the community that littering is unacceptable behaviour.
For 50 years, Keep Australia Beautiful (Queensland) has been leading the charge against litter pollution.
This year, like every year, we ask that our support network roll up their sleeves, don some gloves, grab a bag and clean-up their neighbourhood. Maybe you only have time to do your street, or perhaps a local park • that's great because every litter-bit helps towards a cleaner, litter-free Queensland.
Did you know? Around 8 million items of litter enter the marine environment every day. 80% of that is from land based sources. Plastics make up about 60% of marine debris, with an estimated 100,000 marine mammals and turtles killed by plastic ingestion or entanglement every year.
During Keep Australia Beautiful week (20-26 August) get active and contribute to a healthier local environment.
