Below is a list of opportunities for 2024 for all of our Officials and Umpires. These will all be held in the Doug Lockhart Memorial Lounge at the McMillan Hockey Centre on Harbour Terrace.

20th March – Start of the Season Information Evening - Compulsory for ALL Officials for 2024
Secondary School 5.30pm / Club 6.30pm
Spontaneous extra get togethers for social events or as the need arises for specific learning development, discussions, guest speakers and opportunities.
4th April – First Education Evening - Basics Refresher. Compulsory for ALL Primary and Secondary Umpires.
Focus on positioning, whistle tone, basic radio use, clear signalling etc.
Date TBC – Second Education Evening / Community Well Being -7pm
Basic First Aid
Date TBC – Third Education Evening / Self Well Being – 7pm
Sports Psychologist, Nutritionist, Fitness Trainers etc.
Date TBC – Fourth Education Evening / On Field Development – 7pm

Hockey NZ Junior and Community Badges and Level 1 and 2 Badges
These will be offered throughout the season. Please indicate below if you are keen to complete one of these HNZ badges.
Secondary School National Tournament Judging AND Match Officials for Premier Club Hockey
There will be opportunities throughout the season to upskill in the area of Match Official and/or Judging. Please indicate below if you are keen to take up one or both of these opportunities.
Club to Supply or Umpire's Pool– Strongly encouraged to attend the Start of Season Info Evening and be interested in joining the “Umpires Pool’ as well.
Foundation Development – Face to Face with Developer Intro to Umpiring Course, may attend Pre-Season Meet and Greet and Start of Season Info Evening and at least 1 education evening. May have a mentor to call on throughout the season.
Talent Development - Face to Face with Developer Umpiring Course either Junior Badge or Community Badge, attend Pre-Season Meet and Greet and Start of Season Info Evening and at least 2 education evenings. Be involved in the online discussions. Have a mentor to work with a couple of times during the season. Potential to attend U13 / U15 Festivals/Tournaments. Regularly umpire Secondary School Games and be looking towards Club games. Judging opportunities at Secondary School Tournament in Dunedin.
Elite Development - Face to Face with Developer/Trainer Umpiring Course either HNZ Level 1 or Level 2, attend Pre-Season Meet and Greet and Start of Season Info Evening and at least 3 education evenings. Lead the online discussions and contribute to Officials social media pages. Have a mentor to work with all season and potentially be a Mentor for an up and coming umpire too. Potential to attend U18, NHC and Master’s Tournaments. Regularly umpire Club games at the higher level. Be a Match Official for Prem Games. Judging opportunities at Secondary School Tournament in Dunedin.
