Here in Albuquerque, the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History will welcome students in grades 6-12 to participate in nuclear, radiation, and energy related hands-on activities. These activities will be led by museum educators and volunteers, many whom have had careers in the field of nuclear science and engineering. Activity lessons meet state and national standards related to nuclear energy, atomic structure, and the politics and history of nuclear weapons. One adult chaperone is required for every 10 students, but more are encouraged. Chaperones will be admitted free of charge with their group. Field trips are scheduled for approximately 9:00 am (school pickup) to 1:00 pm (museum departure). Please apply only if you are willing to accept a trip on any of the five days. This year we ask that students bring a sack or box lunch. Time will be given for lunch and a self-guided visit to other areas in the museum.
One application needs to be filled out for each busload of students (about 50 students fit on a bus) you wish to bring.Teachers with smaller groups may apply, but may be asked to share a bus with another school.
The deadline for applications is September 11, 2019. Accepted schools will be required to submit a Principal's letter of support.
