The Newfoundland and Labrador Brain Injury Association (NLBIA) is holding its inaugural Stepping Together for Brain Injury walk on Saturday, June 3rd (rain date: Sunday, June 4th) at Bowring Park (meet just inside the gated entrance at Park Road) beginning at 2PM. This walk will serve as both a fundraiser and awareness event for our association, during National Brain Injury Awareness Month.
Brain injury continues to be the number one disabler and killer of those under 40 years of age globally. In Canada, traumatic brain injury occurs at a rate of one person injured every three minutes. When other causes of brain injury are included, over 1.5 million Canadians are living with the effects of brain injury. The NLBIA’s mission is to advocate for brain injury survivors and their families in order to enhance their lives. Part of improving survivors’ and families’ lives is done through offering our programs and services. Due to COVID-19, our fundraising efforts and programs have largely been put on hold, leaving our association and community vulnerable. Moving forward, our hope is to increase our reach.
Prior to participation in the walk, participants will be asked to collect pledges or make a donation (suggested amount of $30) en lieu of a set registration fee. Those wishing to collect pledges can indicate this on the form and you will be sent a pledge sheet to the email address provided. Donations and pledges may be mailed to or dropped off at our office location (31 Peet Street, Suite 103; St. John's, NL A1B 3W8). We can also accept a credit card over the phone or email transfer to info@nlbia.ca. When sending a donation, please indicate it is for walk registration and who it is from. Those with donations or pledges totalling $50 or more will be eligible for a blue NLBIA polo shirt.
Please direct any questions to our office by emailing us at info@nlbia.ca or calling (709) 221-1288. Looking forward to seeing everyone on June 3rd!
