Volunteer Positions
We request that all volunteers (except the take-down crew) arrive in Linn Park by 9 am on the morning of the event. You will meet with the volunteer coordinator, be provided a volunteer badge, and given your instructions for the day.

The following positions are available:

Master/Mistress of Ceremonies
This position involves working as an emcee. You have to be loud, comfortable speaking in front of crowds, and willing to introduce speakers/talk about what they plan to speak about. If you are interested in doing this, we will get you a list of all the information that you would need.

Set-Up Crew
This position involves helping those organizations who are tabling work to set up their tables, helping the March for Science committee with any equipment they need to use, helping the committee determine the best placement for anything needing public access (toilets, booths, etc) and helping to set up anything else that may be necessary. Since this position entails some physical labor (nothing too intense!) keep in mind that you would need to be able to lift objects/help take apart objects. If you feel like you can do some of this but not all of it due to any limitations you might have, we will be happy to work with you!

Take-Down Crew
This position is similar to the above, except it involves taking down exhibits, helping clean up the park (signs, waste, etc), and helping to take down anything else we can think of. Since this position also entails some physical labor, keep in mind that you would need to be able to lift objects/help take apart objects. If you feel like you can do some of this but not all of it due to any limitations you might have, we will be happy to work with you! Ideally, you’ll also be attending the march, but you will need to be at Linn Park at 1 PM on the afternoon of the march to work with the volunteer coordinator.

Organization Liaison
This position involves helping those organizations tabling with anything they might need, which can involve running requests back and forth to committee members, helping to deal with any problems that might arise, and working as a liaison between tabling organizations.

Media/Speaker Aide
This position involves helping the media department keep things running smoothly. This can mean talking to speakers, helping with the schedule, keeping track of time, or anything else related to communications that may be necessary.

March Marshal
This position involves helping keep the parade itself organized. You will need to keep a map of the route handy, keep the marchers on the right path, and move up and down through the crowd to help with chants. This position also means keeping people on the right path and going in the right direction, both at the park and during the parade itself.

Social Media Volunteer
This position involves getting video and photos from the march itself for use on our social media. You would move throughout the crowd and the park, taking photographs and video of anything relevant to the day. For this position, you need a working, preferably HD camera (this can be a phone camera or standalone equipment) and we would recommend a spare battery/backup charger in case of battery emergencies.

Floater
This position involves being a sort of all-purpose volunteer. Anything that isn’t included in the list above that we either haven’t thought of or don’t yet know we need, you’ll be our go-to person. You can move throughout the park and the march itself, offering assistance when needed, or helping other volunteers. This is the most flexible option for volunteering.
