Event Guidelines

1. Treat everyone with respect. We do not tolerate racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, or any other form of discrimination. In every interaction, be aware of your privilege and how it may affect the conversation. Bullying, threats, and harassment are also unacceptable. Mods will prioritize the feelings and safety of marginalized individuals over those called out for inappropriate and/or discriminatory behavior.

An example of this form of discrimination is if someone brings up an issue related to the experience of a marginalized community and others push past this topic. This has happened in the past with racism and aroallo-phobia/erasure. We will not relegate these conversations to another channel rather than address them. Thus, we are asking that people be conscious of giving space to serious topics when they are brought up in any channel/conversation on this server. If we see this happening, mods will intervene to redirect the conversation back to the overlooked topic. If you have concerns, please reach out to a mod.

2. Respect everyone’s identities and the pronouns they use. If you use the wrong pronoun for someone, apologize, correct yourself, and move on. We do not condone any kind of identity policing.

If a term may violate our guidelines, due to being rooted in exclusionist or other harmful ideology, or being culturally appropriative, do not assume that everyone is aware of its harmful origins or that they espouse those ideas. Many terms have been reclaimed, used without bad intention, or simply used without knowledge of other people using them in harmful ways. Aim to inform, rather than police.

3. Everyone makes mistakes. Assume that everyone has positive intentions. Be humble in accepting when you make a mistake, and practice forgiveness wherever possible.

4. Respect everyone’s privacy. Unless you have their permission, do not share anyone else’s identities, stories, or experiences with others.

5. This is an all-ages friendly chat, so please avoid any NSFW content unless you are in a dedicated NSFW channel (currently: #aro-experiences-w-sex, #ace-experiences-w-sex, #kink-discussion, #neg-feelings-sex-nsfw).

6. This is a sex-positive and romance-positive space. This means that everyone should stay respectful of others’ decisions on whether or not they engage in sex or romance. If you need to vent negative feelings on these topics, please do so in the appropriate channel (#neg-feeling-romance, #neg-feelings-sex-sfw, #neg-feelings-sex-nsfw).

7. Please use content warnings for any potentially triggering content or spoilers. See below for more information on how to do this.

8. Allies are welcome, but please recognize that the primary purpose of these chats is to provide aces and aros with a community space. You can check out our learn page if you’re looking to learn the basics of aro and ace identities.

9. If you are uncomfortable with something another member has done or said, bring it to the attention of a moderator. We will do our best to resolve any conflicts that come up. Get in touch with a member of our team within Discord by tagging @taaap members or privately by filling out this form. We’ll look into it ASAP.

10. For the first infraction, we will warn participants. For the second infraction, we will temporarily prevent participants from posting for fifteen minutes. In the case of severe or continued infractions of these guidelines, we reserve the right to remove people from the chat altogether.

11. When it comes to interpreting rules and guidelines, the decision of the moderators are final. If you disagree with the ruling of one moderator, please reach out to a different one or contact TAAAP directly.

Sharing Pronouns

All members of the server are able to edit their own names, and we ask that you include your pronouns in parentheses after your name if you wish to share that information with others in the server. You can change this by right-clicking on your name and selecting “Change Nickname.”

Some examples include: Andy (they/them), Malika (she/her), Juan (he/him), and Sydney (any pronouns).

Spoilers and Content Warnings

Discord has a feature that allows you to hide content that others may not want to read. If you are on desktop, you can highlight the text you’d like to hide, and select the eye icon. You can also type two vertical lines before and after the text you’d like to hide.

Before the hidden text, provide some sort of warning so readers have an idea of whether they should or shouldn’t read what you’ve written. For example, you might write “Spoilers: Avatar the Last Airbender” or “Content warnings: abuse and arophobia.”

Common topics you should use content warnings for include: physical violence, sexual violence, abuse (including emotional abuse), experiences with bigotry, drug or alcohol use, eating disorders, and suicide and self-harm. Please use your best judgment for other topics.
