Senior Scholarship Application
General Application - All required questions must be answered to be considered for a scholarship.

As you read through the scholarships listed below, you will notice that several are identified as C & E scholarships. The Citizenship and Education Foundation of the Edison Local Schools is a non-profit corporation established in 1988. The foundation is governed by a board of trustees from the community. The purpose of the foundation is to enrich and enhance educational opportunities by: creating opportunities for special and advanced study, endow programs in support of the curriculum, help sustain this community’s tradition of excellence of learning, and offer scholarship aid. The C & E Foundation facilitates young people through four initiatives: 1) a scholarship program that helps students pay tuition to colleges, universities, and technical schools; 2) a grant program which supports teacher and student initiated projects and programs; 3) an endowment fund which facilitates educational programs and community projects; and 4) a special support fund which enables students to participate in special camps and exchange program.

The awards listed in this packet are known to be offered as of January 25th, 2018. The availability of these scholarships is subject to change based on sponsor request. The monetary amounts of these awards may vary from year to year as does the number of awards given by an organization.

The awards are usually made directly to the student. Sponsors may award the check after the student has completed the first quarter or semester and has paid fees for the second semester or quarter. Sponsors may give students written procedures at the time of the award presentation.

If the student changes educational plans regarding post secondary education as indicated on the award application, the sponsoring organization reserves the right to request the award be returned.

Discuss your short and long term goals. Your essay should include both professional and personal aspirations. Do not list your goal as "going to college" or "getting a job". Be specific and list alternative plans if your first choice goals do not work out. The scholarship committee and scholarship sponsors are looking for a way to get to know you better, in addition to other parts of this application.

Scholarship - Ric Bastien Award (C & E)
This award was founded to ensure a lasting memorial to an outstanding young man, honor student, leader and athlete who lost his life to cancer in 1991. Rick was a 1989 honor graduate of Edison and a student at The College of Wooster. One of Rick’s favorite activities was golf.
Scholarship - Bay Area Council Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a senior who has been accepted into a post secondary school. Other requirements are: a) The student must exhibit outstanding citizenship; b) Participation in school activities; c) Possess acceptable scholarship standards.
Scholarship - Berlin Grange Award (C & E)
This award was established by the former Berlin Grange. It is awarded to an Edison senior who will be continuing his/her education in a two-year or four-year program. The following guidelines apply: a) Planning a career in an agricultural service; b) Must be of high moral character; c) Must have a 2.5 GPA or higher; d) Consideration given to financial need.
Scholarship - Marilyn D. Bickley Scholarship Award (C & E)
This award is given in fond memory of Marilyn D. Bickley, a well-respected teacher at Milan Elementary.
Scholarship - Carmel Jean & Carl J. Boehler College Scholarship Fund
This scholarship will be awarded annually to qualified candidates who are actively and continuously pursuing a baccalaureate degree from an accredited four-year college or university. This award will be given to a student who has demonstrated hard work and diligence both in school and in personal endeavors. Financial need is a consideration.
Scholarship - Edison Jaycees Award
The Jaycees are a leadership training and civic organization for young people. Areas of emphasis are business development, management skills, individual training and community service. The recipient of this award should be a well-rounded individual who is able to balance community service, sports and extracurricular activities. Please note on your application if your parent was a former Jaycee member – although it is not a requirement, it is recommended. Students must be accepted into an accredited college or university within the state of Ohio.
Scholarship - Edison Senior Scholarship (C & E)
This scholarship is awarded to a senior who has been accepted into a post secondary school. The source of the funds was generated by the late Sidney Frohman of Sandusky, former president and board chairman of the Hinde & Dauch Paper Company which he ran for many years. His success as a business leader in the community led to his principle of sharing that success with others in Erie County. Other requirements are: a) The student must exhibit outstanding citizenship; b) Participation in school activities; c) Possess acceptable scholarship standards.
Scholarship - Harris Burneson Health Care Award (C & E)
This award was established by Don and Marjorie Burneson to honor Agnes Ireland Harris, Mrs. Burneson’s mother, who came to Milan in 1965 and remained until her death in 1974. Mrs. Harris had reason to know and appreciate the dedication of many fine nurses during her lifetime and considered nursing to be one of the most admirable professions. To qualify, the recipient must meet the following standards: a) Senior at Edison High School; b) Superior citizen and leader; c) Outstanding scholar; d) High moral character; e) Attend an accredited school of nursing or four-year college majoring in a health care field, preference is given to nursing majors, but pre-med, physical therapy, or other health careers will be considered; f) Evidence of initiative and commitment to a career in nursing or health care; g) Financial need considered.
Scholarship - Pearl Jenner Award (C & E)
This award is given in fond memory of Pearl Jenner, a well-respected teacher at Milan Elementary for many years. The following guidelines apply: a) Be a graduating senior of Edison High School accepted by an accredited college or University; b) Demonstrate excellent scholarship; c) Plan a career in the field of education; d) Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher; e) Be of high moral character.
Scholarship - Jim's Pizza Box Award
This award will be given to a student who exemplifies strong character, shows academic aptitude and leadership qualities. The winner will receive the check after the end of the first term at college.
Scholarship - Troy Johnson Memorial Award (C & E)
This award was founded to ensure a lasting memorial to an outstanding young man, student leader, athlete, member of the choir and a well-rounded student who lost his life in a car-train accident in 1984. Recipients of this scholarship will be selected on the following guidelines: a) Must be a senior at Edison High School; b) Must meet academic qualifications for college acceptance (generally a 2.5 GPA or higher); c) Must be of high moral character; d) Must demonstrate enthusiasm for learning and service; e) Decision may also be based on financial need.
Scholarship - Lori Lindecamp Memorial Performing Arts Award (C & E)
This award was founded to ensure a lasting memorial to an outstanding young lady, honor student, leader, athlete, performing artist and well-rounded student who lost her life in a highway accident in 1983. Recipients of this award will be selected on the following guidelines: a) Must be a senior at Edison, participating in the performing arts; b) Must meet academic qualifications for college acceptance (generally a 2.5 GPA or higher); c) Must be of high moral character; d) Must demonstrate enthusiasm for learning and service; e) Decision may also be based on financial need.
Scholarship - Maribeth (Van Offeren) Miedema Scholarship (C & E)
This scholarship is in honor of Maribeth Miedema, a Milan native, Edison High School graduate (1972) and a BGSU graduate with a Bachelors Degree in nursing. Applications must meet the following requirements: a) Student must be a senior at Edison High School; b) A short essay on future goals must accompany the application; c) Must attend an accredited school of nursing or four-year college majoring in a health care related field. Preference will be given to nursing majors, but all health care careers will be considered; d) In addition, if applicant chooses BGSU School of Nursing and is accepted, additional scholarship money will be provided after first semester.
Scholarship - Milan Alumni Association Scholarship (C & E)
The Milan Alumni Association is proud to support the tradition and quality of academics and extracurricular activities of the Edison Local Schools. The Milan Alumni scholarship will be granted to an Edison graduate who exhibits the qualities of scholarship, leadership and citizenship.
Scholarship - Sally A. Morrison Scholarship (C & E)
This award is sponsored by Mrs. Gerald Morrison. Sally Morrison is a retired teacher from Berlin-Milan Schools. The recipient must plan to attend any institution of post high school learning. Financial need is a consideration.
Scholarship - Charles & Margaret Nickels Award (C & E)
The Nickels Award was established in 1991 in memory of Mr. and Mrs. Nickels by their daughters. Mr. Nickels was a graduate of Milan High and a successful farmer in the area. The Nickels Award was established in recognition of Mr. and Mrs. Nickels’ belief in and support for education. The recipient of this award must be attending a four-year college majoring in agriculture, land management or environmental sciences. Applicant should include evidence of initiative, imagination and innovation which he / she hopes to apply to their chosen field of study.
Scholarship - Ric Pollack Memorial Award (C & E)
This award is in memory of Ric Pollack. It is awarded to an Edison High School senior pursuing a fine arts education (art, art therapy, photography, fashion design, music or related careers).
Scholarship - Richard D. Pusateri Memorial Award (C & E)
This award was founded by Mrs. Joseph Pusateri as a tribute to the youth who served in World War II and to ensure a lasting memorial to her son, Staff Sergeant Richard D. Pusateri. Dick was an outstanding young man who served his country and gave his life during the Battle of the Bulge in 1945. To qualify for this award, recipients must meet the following requirements: a) Be a senior at Edison High School; b) Meet academic qualifications for college acceptance; c) Be of high moral character; d) Exemplify American ideals; e) Financial need considered.
Scholarship - The Jeff Spradlin Scholarship (C & E)
The goal of this scholarship is to be presented to a well rounded student. Other requirements: a) The recipient must be active in sports or other school organizations; b) Maintained a 2.5 GPA during high school years; c) Has been accepted into a two or four year college.
