Friday, December 20 ~6:15pm
Shabbat is about setting aside time and making it special. We want everyone to
experience the pause in our week that Shabbat dinner can bring. On Friday, December
20 we are encouraging everyone to do something special for Friday night dinner at
home.
What does something special mean?
- If during the week your family eats when they can between activities and carpool - make it a point to have dinner together on December 20.
- If you don’t have guests for dinner often - try inviting someone to join you on December 20 (if you want to be someone’s guest - we can help. Email us at info@adath.org if you would like to be a guest.)
- If you usually eat in the kitchen - switch it up and eat in the dining room, or any other special place in your house
- Do something to make this Friday night dinner different than the rest of your week - do whatever that means to you
- Try lighting Shabbat candles, saying the blessings over the wine and challah - we will provide a “Shabbat Box” with everything you need including candles, grape juice, challah and all the blessings.
What is
NOT necessary?
- No need to make a fancy dinner - unless you want to
- Don’t stress - the idea is to relax and take a break from the chaos of the week
- Don’t assume there is a “right” way to have Shabbat dinner - whatever the journey means to you, wherever you are on that journey - that is what you should do and we will provide the basics to get you started
Let us know that you will be participating and after December 20, we hope you will share your experience with us.
