The following goals and strategies were develop by staff. Please check all strategies that you use/ have implemented or that you have observed in others.
Goal #1 Continue to build a positive school culture for all students and staff. This includes: Supporting positive mental health for all. Creating a strong sense of belonging for all members of our school community. Creating a welcoming and inclusive school community. Building resiliency, kindness, cooperation and leadership in our students and staff. Student focus on service.

GOAL # 2 - Moving our school ahead on the Inclusion Continuum - from Integration to Inclusion to Teaching to Diversity.
Give students CHOICE as to how they can show their learning
consult/collaborate with case managers and keep doing what works

Be purposeful about including our international students

FAIL -First Attempt In Learning
Encourage students to stay curious and to take academic risks in the classroom...remind students that struggle & failure are an important part of the learning process.
Ongoing collaboration with colleagues: Who are our students? How are they doing? How do we push their learning?
GOAL # 3 -Increasing Indigenous Perspective & The First People’s Principles of Learning
Take your class for a nature hike, invite a local Elder along
Invite storytellers, local Indigenous guests (SD 61 ABEd department has list of speakers available)
Include Indigenous literature in English classes
Make sure to teach Residential Schools in Social Studies (Blanket Exercise)
Place based learning
Acknowledge and learn about the traditional territories of the Esquimalt, Songhees & WSANEC peoples.
Cultural experiences connected to curricular content
Connect with UVIC - Language Revitalisation Programs, UVic Speakers Bureau
De-emphasize eurocentric perspectives
Involve student council in “Reconciliation” activities
GOAL # 4 - Continue to Improve on Sound Grading & Assessments in the Classroom.

Multiple opportunities to demonstrate growth of knowledge & skills over time
