Proposals for TAP Network Goal 16 National Workshops
With its increasing focus on capacity building for CSOs working at the national level around Goal 16 of the SDGs, the Transparency, Accountability & Participation (TAP) Network is looking to support its Members, and civil society more broadly, to host national Goal 16 workshops in their countries, utilizing the TAP Network's Goal 16 Advocacy Toolkit and other related resources. To date, workshops have been hosted by TAP Members and partners in Kenya, Jordan, Nepal and Thailand.

While funding for these workshops is not currently offered explicitly, the TAP Network may consider providing support for strong and robust proposals, on a case-by-case basis. Additionally, organizations that host these workshops will be strongly considered by the TAP Network Steering Committee for additional support to present the outcomes of their workshops and represent the TAP Network at the 2017 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) from 10-19 July 2017 in New York.

You can find all materials from those workshops, including agendas, final reports and outcomes at: http://tapnetwork2030.org/goal-16-advocacy-toolkit/events-workshops/

Additionally, you can find an independent review and analysis of all of these workshops at: http://tapnetwork2030.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Assesment-of-TAP-workshops-on-Goal-16-Advocacy-Toolkit.pdf

You can also find more guidance on hosting Goal 16 Workshops in our Goal 16 Workshop Guides here: http://tapnetwork2030.org/goal-16-advocacy-toolkit/goal16workshopresources/

National workshops that the TAP Network can consider for additional support:
- Strongly considered proposals must have a clear approach/methodology and anticipated outcomes, and outline potential follow-up mechanisms to continuously track follow-up activities going forward
- Must be hosted no later than 1 July 2017. This will help us ensure that workshop reports and outcomes are able to potentially be showcased at the 2017 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (10-19 July, 2017)
- Preference will be given to workshops proposed in countries undertaking Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) at the 2017 HLPF (Find a full list of countries undertaking VNRs in 2017 here: https://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/hlpf)

OBJECTIVES OF GOAL 16 NATIONAL WORKSHOPS:
Objectives and outcomes for these Goal 16 can vary by country and in different contexts, and therefore we would encourage organizations to clearly outline what the proposed objectives are for their proposed workshops. Suggested objectives could include:
- Strengthening engagement of workshop participants to facilitate reporting on Goal 16, including planned production of “alternative” or “shadow” reports in the future
- Increasing understanding of Goal 16 amongst civil society or the general public
- Creation of joint outputs and collective advocacy messages for workshop participants to take to national or subnational governments
- Establishing national civil society coalition that continues to follow-up on Goal 16 implementation and reporting in a given country

EXPECTED OUTPUTS FROM GOAL 16 NATIONAL WORKSHOPS:
For strong proposals that can be considered for additional TAP Network support, organizations hosting these workshops will ideally put together robust written outputs, including a combination of the following, but is not limited to:
- a summary report;
- outcomes and follow-up activities from the workshop;
- advocacy plans and any recommendations resulting from the workshop
- any planning materials used in the workshop (agenda, presentations, etc.)
- workshop evaluations from participants

This will help ensure that activities in various countries are recorded, and to help TAP Network members hosting national Goal 16 workshops in the future to learn from previous experiences. Proposed workshops that clearly outline these outputs, along with explicit plans for following up on the outcomes from these workshops, will be given preference for additional support from TAP.
