On Tuesday, April 14, midwifery supporters will gather in Boston to advocate for midwifery care in Massachusetts. The event will include speakers, brief advocacy training, and legislative visits in small groups.
Who should attend? Midwives, midwifery students, families, advocates, and anyone who supports midwifery, public health, and reproductive justice!
Children are welcome.
No experience necessary! We will guide you every step of the way with instructions, handouts, and experienced group leaders. Legislators and their staffs appreciate hearing from you, and showing up at the State House makes a big impression!
What we will be advocating for? Everyone deserves access to midwifery care in every setting from hospital to birth center to home to community health center. We have made strides for midwifery in Massachusetts, but there is more work to do! We will advocate in support of:
- Reimbursement parity for Certified Professional Midwives, Certified Nurse Midwives, and birth centers from commercial insurance and MassHealth (expanding upon what was already passed in 2024)
- Creation of a midwifery workforce development fund
- State investment in support of birth centers, midwifery, and maternal health programs
Why are we advocating? Legislators respond to direct outreach from constituents. Strong advocacy helps promote pro-midwife policy and build on what we have achieved so far. Make your voice heard on Beacon Hill!
