Is there a particular cultural era/technology level you wish to have in the game? These examples are not meant to be historically accurate. They're more just vibes. Keep in mind that D&D as a game completely changes if you run to far from fantasy middle ages in any direction.
Fantasy Middle Ages like Lord of the Rings or A Song of Ice and Fire- no tech more complicated than a crossbow or a catapult.
Stone Age! Spears, maybe simple bows. No metal weaponry!
Steampunk! Give me airships, guns, and hats with lots of GEARS
Wild West. Not the same as steampunk. I just want there to be six shooters, outhouses and saloons.
Somewhere between Enlightenment and Regency era. Canons and flintlock pistols exist and armor is less in vogue. Society is ruled by nobles, but that is starting to change.
Bronze Age - vast empires and city-states ruled by god-kings. Iron armor and weapons do not exist.
Early Iron age - Similar to fantasy middle age, but there probably aren't crossbows, catapults, or anything remotely resembling sewage.
Dieselpunk! Yeah. Like steampunk. but way cooler. With airplanes and cars and tanks. Oooh boy.
20th or 21st century analogy. Fantasy world but with TVs, cars, modern infrastructure, and cell phones.
Actual 21st century Earth, but with magical things beyond the fringes of mainstream society (like that fantasy series which will not be named).
Alternate 21st Century Earth but with magical elements added in. Like Shadowrun or that almost-good movie, Bright.
Spelljammer or something adjacent. D&D rules and creatures in a space-faring setting.
Kitchen Sink Fantasy world. Literally ANYTHING might happen. Swords, Robots, Magic, Who knows?
Post-apocalyptic. Society is destroyed, but ancient magic and strange technology can be found side by side.

High Fantasy - PCs are important to the world and have a grand destiny of some sort.
Low Fantasy - PCs are absolutely not important to the world, but can still have some fun and excitement in their own little corner of it.

Dark Fantasy - Give me spooky stuff
Horror - Scare my pants off.
Dungeon Crawl/Wilderness adventure. I want to track resources and play a survival game. l like when role-play emerge from gameplay rather than vice versa.
Mystery and intrigue. I like complicated plots with twists and turns.
