2024/2025 FCHS First Scholars
FCHS First Scholars is a mentoring program sponsored by Franklin Education Connection. The goal of First Scholars is to connect high-potential students who will be the first in their families to attend college (“Scholars”) with professionals in the community who will serve as Mentors and help students navigate through the college planning and admission process. Starting in the ninth grade, Scholars and Mentors will meet as a group for a monthly meeting (during the lunch hour on a Wednesday during school) to work on Scholars’ college and career goals. Scholars will also benefit from access to important college-readiness programming and services, including increased high school faculty support, college visits, panels with college students and admission professionals, and detailed information on strategies to finance college tuition costs.  Applications are due August 1, 2024.

Mentors:
Franklin Education Connection is seeking professionals in the community to serve as FCHS First Scholars Mentors.

Mentors will meet with their Scholars once a month during the lunch hour at Franklin Community High School (additional contact during the month is appreciated but not mandatory).  All monthly activities will be planned by the FCHS First Scholars committee and will be conducted with the entire Scholar cohort together.  A one-time training sessions will be provided.  All that is required of Mentors is steady attendance, a positive attitude, and a genuine interest in helping students succeed.

Professionals across all sectors of the community are invited to apply, and we hope to a have a class of Mentors that represent various career types (i.e., law, business, education, medicine, etc.).  Our hope is to match Mentors and Scholars based, in part, on field of interest.

The time commitment for this program is limited, but the potential impact could be great.   If you have questions, please contact Melissa Parramore at parramorem@franklinschools.org
