“가려 보이지 않던 것들이 다시 들어오기까지는 꽤 오랜 시간이 걸렸다.

안개가 걷히듯 서서히 드러났지만 그렇다고 해서 그것이 작아지거나 약해진 것은 아니었다.

이전과 비슷한 것을 보게 되었지만 나는 달라졌다. 보는 것과 나로서 존재하는 것은 또 다른 이야기다.“

책 «무너지고 쌓이는»은 작가 김재연이 존재하던 세계, 가족 형태의 변화를 맞이한 2020년부터 현재까지 

김재연을 둘러싸고있던 주변의 열매, 흙, 공기와 빛을 사진으로 기록해 온 여정입니다.

책은 김재연의 삶을 투영한 형상과 빛으로 그려진 사진 작업들, 떨어진 열매를 주워 구성한 ‘사진판화드로잉’,

그리고 그 과정의 시작이 된 얼음과 씨앗, 흙의 형태으로 맺혀진 푸르른 시아노그래피로 구성되어있습니다.

«무너지고 쌓이는»은 “어쩔 도리 없이 맞이한 모호한 세계” 속에서 답을 찾고 수집하며, 

단단한 열매를 맺어가는 과정에 대한 이야기를 써내려가고있습니다.

다양한 형태의 변주로 작업과 생각을 이어가는 김재연은 주변과 자연으로부터 답과 해소를 찾아갑니다.

2023년 1월 서울 성북동 유영공간에서 열렸던 전시 <혼혼한 공기>에서 소개했던 작업들과 작업의 일부였던 권순지 작가의 글 <다른장소, 경계에서> 가 함께 수록되어있으며, 국문과 영문 두 개의 언어로 쓰여졌습니다.

The book "Crumbling, Piling Up" chronicles the journey of artist Kim Jaeyeon, encompassing the surroundings of fruits, earth, air, and light that encircled her from 2019, a time of confronting the transformations in her world and the shifts in familial dynamics, up to the present.

The book comprises photographic works that depict Kim Jaeyeon's life through shapes and light, "photo-painting drawings" created by assembling fallen fruits, and the verdant cyanography stemming from ice, seeds, and soil - the origins of the process.

"Crumbling, Piling Up" seeks answers and gathers experiences within the "ambiguous world met unavoidably," documenting the tale of forming solid fruits. Kim Jaeyeon, persisting through various forms of artistic expression and contemplation, seeks answers and resolutions from her surroundings and nature.

Included within the book are works introduced during the <Dim Air> exhibition held in January 2023 at the Space uooyoung in Seongbuk-dong, Seoul, along with an excerpt from the essay "In a Different Place, at the Boundaries" by Kwon Sunji. The book is presented in two languages.
