Project Upcycle Designer Application Form - Due Friday, February 9th, 2018
3S Artspace, Recovergirl, and Goodwill of Northern New England are joining forces to promote regional designers and sustainable fashion. Project Upcycle is a fashion design competition for aspiring designers who reside in New England (ME, NH, VT, MA, CT, RI). The event will be held at 3S Artspace in Portsmouth, NH on Friday, March 23rd, and Saturday, March 24th, 2018.

In particular, we wish to promote emerging designers with less than five years of professional design experience. Everyone from college students and self-taught designers to retirees is enthusiastically encouraged to apply.

Designers will be challenged to transform secondhand clothing into a gala-worthy outfit in a day and a half. Supplemental fabric and notions will be provided. Selected designers will need to bring their own sewing machine and sewing tool kit (pins, measuring tape, scissors, etc.). Irons and ironing boards will be provided.

Designers will be judged on execution, creative reuse of materials, and styling. Four judges will be announced shortly and will feature past design competition contestants, designers, professors, and those with retail experience and presence.

A cash prize will be awarded to the top three designers. (First: $1,500, Second: $1,000, Third: $500) Eight designers and will be selected to compete. Four back-up designers will also be selected.

This application is due on or before February 9, 2018. Our hope is to announce the selected designers before the end of February 2018.
