Timber Framing for FLINTA Course Application

Thank you for your interest in taking a Timber Framing for FLINTA course at Avon Hills Folk School!

We are excited to announce that the course dates for 2026 are:

  • June 1 - 5, 2026: Timber Framing for FLINTA 101
  • June 8 - 12, 2026: Timber Framing for FLINTA 102
For both courses, we will be supporting Avon Hills Folk School’s 1889 Barn Restoration Project by cutting new timbers needed to rebuild the old barn. The original barn has already been disassembled and the timbers have been assessed. This is not a restoration class, but the new timbers cut during this class will become part of the final structure during the spring 2027 barn raising celebration, which students will be invited to join.

During the 101 course, students will learn the fundamentals of timber framing, including layout and joinery while working with chisels, saws, and other hand tools.

During the 102 course, students will learn to use modern power tools in cutting timber frame joints. This class is intended for students with some previous experience, either with timber framing or woodworking with power tools.

Full course details for both courses can be found here.
