Weekly Walk N Roll is a volunteer-run weekly program, funded by the Contra Costa Transportation Authority and the Bay Area Air District to encourage students to get to school on foot, by bike, or in a carpool - rain or shine!
Weekly Walk N Roll uses barcode scan tags and an app that registers students' trips, miles traveled and C02 saved. This information is gathered by parents registering their students scan tag with self-reported distance traveled. On Walk N Roll Day each week, volunteers greet and scan participating students’ key tags when they arrive by bike, scooter, walking, or in a carpool. Every 4th trip a student checks in on Walk N Roll Day they earn a trip charm to put on their key ring. The program is simple and fun, kids love it and adults enjoy participating as well.
This program has been implemented at schools in Pleasant Hill, Concord, Clayton and Martinez with over 1,200 kids now walking and biking to school EVERY WEEK. The effects of an active campus are HUGE! In all the schools Walk N Roll is running we see the benefits including: promoting community, kids getting exercise before school, increased attendance, decreased traffic congestion around school, and more!
