About Our Creative Action Teen Programs
CHANGING LIVES YOUTH THEATRE ENSEMBLE
In partnership with SAFE Expect Respect Program, teen artists and activists from the Austin area use theatre as a tool to help their community foster healthy relationships, celebrate diversity, and engage in important community issues. Students create and tour an original play to middle schools and community settings around Austin!
Teen artists transform public spaces and explore relevant social issues through original murals, sculptures, art installations, and more. Students collaborate with professional artists and community partners to research, design and install public art projects for the community.
YOUTH CINEMA COLLECTIVE
Youth Cinema Collective is dedicated to telling stories in cinema that reflect our community. Members of YCC make original films, study film history and theory, learn production practices for large and small projects, and gain professional-level experience while making lifelong friends among their fellow young filmmakers.
We typically meet twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7-9pm. Our programs run from the end of August to the end of May. Each program has specific events and projects that may ask students to occasionally meet at a different time or on a different day.
Our teens earn a $600 stipend for their work over the year as artists and in the ensemble. The stipend is broken up and paid at the completion of each semester.
Our programs are ensembles and collectives meaning that there is space for individual growth, but we are looking for team players who are excited to work with others on collaborative artistic projects.
**There is an option to apply to more than one of the programs at the end of the application. To start, please select the program you are most interested in below.
