Connecticut Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents (CALAS)

The CALAS Organization serves over 226,288 students and the educators that service them. Today it is thriving to become the primary organization that supports Pre-K to 12th educators for the Connecticut Latino Community. "Our mission is to foster quality and equitable public education for Latino Connecticut students as we seek to inspire, cultivate, develop, and support Hispanic/Latino education leaders and talent. Acting with urgency, we are committed to supporting the professional growth of Hispanic/Latino talent through professional learning and networking opportunities.”

CALAS is pleased to announce the Education Leadership Fund to promote leadership development among Hispanic/Latino college students and K-12 educators.  Our purpose is to inspire Hispanic/Latino students to graduate, teach and lead in our Connecticut schools. NOTE:  Nominations are ONLY open to individuals from the following school districts represented in the CALAS membership (ACES, Ansonia, Bridgeport, Bristol, CREC, CTHSS, Danbury, Goodwin, Hartford, Manchester, Meriden, Middletown, New Britain, New Haven, Issac New London, North Haven, Norwalk, Norwich, Orange, Stamford, Stratford, Thomaston, Torrington, and Waterbury).

Award:
High School Senior Award- $1,000

Eligibility Criteria:
Student must be of Hispanic/Latino descent
Attends a Connecticut public high school
High School is in a district represented in the CALAS membership
Plans to enroll in an accredited higher education institution in the fall of 2024
Has a minimum GPA of 3.0
Is a permanent resident of Connecticut

Selection Criteria – Essay Question
The CALAS Scholarship Selection Committee will evaluate all essay entries based on content and clarity of expression.

Essay Prompt - Share your personal journey and how it has shaped your identity as a Latino/a/x. How do you envision your educational experiences will positively contribute to your community?

Award Recipients will be invited as guests to the CALAS Gala for public recognition.  Gala to be held on Friday, May 3, 2024, 6 – 11pm at the Aqua Turf, 556 Mulberry St, Plantsville, CT.  Recipients will become part of a network of mentors and mentees.
