Support Group : Lavender Coalition
The Lavender Coalition is a space for queer, trans, and allied women & femme leaders to come together to practice self/community care while making space for political organizing. During meetings, you can expect to participate in fun and meaningful conversation, self/community care activities, networking and bonding, decompression exercises, and celebration of each other's organizing and journeys. We're actively seeking facilitators to lead activities and discussion.
What do we mean by queer, trans, and allied women & femme leaders? This space centers women and femmes in the LGBTQIA+ community. However, we welcome all women and femmes to share space with us. We also welcome anyone with lived experience of misogynistic and patriarchal oppression to share space with us. We ask that people with privilege learn to take a step back, be intentional, and be open to being called in. Leaders also come in all forms and work in all areas, from social justice organizing to running small businesses to making art. We're looking to bring people together who may not have otherwise met and foster a collaborative mindset.
Why lavender? In 1970, co-founder of the famous National Organization for Women (NOW) Betty Friedan referred to lesbian women within the organization as the "Lavender Menace" and a threat to the feminist movement. This term was reclaimed by lesbian feminists organizing for queer women's liberation. Today, we use the term to honor the power of all queer women and femmes.
We hope this space continues to grow meeting after meeting. If you have any ideas or questions, please contact Women's Program Officer Miranda at
