Horse people have all SORTSA different words for horsey things! Like remember when I asked ya what’s the part of a horse’s leg between the fetlock & the hoof called?[^1] Well: that was more ’n two years ago, so I think the statue of limitations on horse vocabulary trivia’s finally up!
Thank goodness, right???
OK, so horses have got different ways of movin forward, called gaits. The slowest is the walk—four beats: left hind, left front, right hind, right front. Then there’s the trot, which is faster, & which has got two beats: diagonal pairs of legs workin in tandem. Fastest of all is the gallop, which is technically four beats although the middle two beats happen really close to each other.
What gait is faster ’n a trot but slower ’n a gallop & goes in three beats: right hind, left hind + right front, left front?
