Vines Band Leadership Application
Thank you for your interest in joining the Viking Band Leadership for the 2019-2020 season. This select group of musicians represents the finest students at Vines High School, and they uphold the highest standards of character, performance, and service. In addition to their regular performance duties and responsibilities as Viking Band Members, these student leaders work tirelessly above and beyond the call of duty to establish the positive culture and success of the Viking Band for both current and future members. While some positions are more visible than others, every single position on this team is vital to the function of the Band, and no position is greater than any other.

The following positions require staffing and are open to any interested members of the Viking Band. Selections will be made on the recommendation of current members of the Leadership Team, one non-elective teacher, and the Directors of the Viking Band. All appointments are final and non-negotiable.

U-Crew: The Uniform Crew ensures the integrity of the Viking Band uniform. In addition to regular uniform inspection and uniform care for both marching and concert seasons, the U-Crew works with the Uniform Parent Coordinator to fit each member and teach the members proper uniform etiquette.

Librarians: The Library staff maintains the organization of the music library and prepares the music folders for marching band. Additionally, the Library staff communicates copying needs to the Directors.

Vigilantes: The Vigilantes are the hands and feet of the Viking Band. They load and unload Viking Band equipment during travel, and they are responsible for maintaining the inventory of chairs and stands during the course of the year at all performance events.

Social Officers: The Social Officers plan and execute non-performance aspects of the Viking Band that promote the unity and positive culture of the Viking Band throughout August Training Camp and the school year

Squad Leaders: Squad Leaders are designated assistants to the Section Leaders during the drill-learning and drill-setting process. These students will aid new or inexperienced members in finding their sets during visual rehearsals.

Section Leaders: Section Leaders are responsible for the musical and visual integrity of their sections by rehearsing, warming up, and passing off their section members. This group of students is often the first point of contact for new members and are vital to setting the culture of the Viking Band.

Section Captains: Section Captains coordinate the Section Leaders for their instrument families (Brass, Woodwind, Percussion, Guard) and facilitate warm-ups and communication during travel.

Band President: The Band President serves as the assistant to the Drum Majors, carrying out logistical and travel plans when the Drum Majors are unavailable.

Drum Majors: The Drum Majors are musically responsible for the Viking Band performances and rehearsals, in addition to executing the timelines and procedures established by the Directors. They act as the liaison between staff and student members, communicating logistical and performance responsibilities to all members.

If selected, members of the Viking Band Leadership are expected to uphold the highest standards of character integrity, musical and visual performance, and academic eligibility. They are expected to model the standards for the prototypical Viking Band Member in all aspects of their lives on and off the field.

The Leadership Team is expected to attend all rehearsals and performances unless excused per PISD policy, as well as training sessions. Additional required dates for the Viking Band Leadership are as follows:

May 18, 2019, 11am-5pm: Viking Band Launch Camp
May 28-May 30, 2019, 4:30-6:30pm: Cluster Leadership Training @ Clark HS
July 22-26, 2019, 8am-4pm: Cluster Leadership Training @ PSHS, Training Camp Prep @ VHS
August 3, 2019, 6:30-8:30pm: Plano Band Pool Party @ Tom Muehlenbeck Center
August 10, 8am-4pm: Band uniform pickup. Leadership Team works at least one shift, and is not required to stay the entire day.

Leadership Team Interviews will be held May 13-15.

Drum Major Auditions will be held May 9 in the Band Hall from 4:30pm-6:30pm.
