Position Summary: The Maker-Mentor will implement entrepreneurship curriculum to high school students.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Implement curriculum to build youth's skills in entrepreneurship
Expose youth to various startups through field trips and speakers
Teach youth lean startup principles and coding for the purpose of creating and marketing their business
Build relationships with individuals and organizations in the startup sector
Enforce program guidelines and monitor youth during program hours
Provide general support and assistance for the program
Support and create a healthy and safe environment by building relationships with teens, other staff members and volunteers
Perform other roles and responsibilities as requested
Qualifications and Requirements:
Experience engaging high school aged youth in out-of-school time settings
Must have knowledge or experience starting a business
Knowledge of Lean Startup principles is recommended but not required- must have a willingness to learn
Familiarity with the startup sector in Pittsburgh
Must pass and maintain criminal background check, child abuse history clearance and FBI criminal background clearance
The Maker-Mentor position is currently a temporary summer position but may lead to a regular position. The Maker-Mentor will be paid at a rate of $10-20/hr but are not eligible for benefits. There are also volunteer positions available.
The time commitment will be Monday-Friday 8:30a-2:30p for 6 weeks plus 2 weeks of training between June and August. Volunteers are expected to be available Monday-Friday 8:30a-12p or 11a-2:30p. Staff and volunteers will be required to attend weekly meetings.
