CHOICE OPTIONS
Students will be able to experience TWO of the following options over the course of the year.  They will have one option in the first semester, and another in the second semester.   Please read the course descriptions below.

ART 8: ($31.50)
This course is an advanced study of the elements of Art with the student using a more focused and individual approach of Art. Students will use mediums such as pencil crayon, charcoal, chalk, pastels, and acrylic paint. Students will study various famous artists from a variety of genres who have influenced the art world.

COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY 8 ($31.50)
Students will have the opportunity to create decals/magnets/t-shirts/water bottles/coffee cups/socks using Adobe Illustrator and Computer Aided Design and sublimation machines to cut their medium.  Students will then begin to work with advanced technology and looking at robotics and how to program the robot to achieve various tasks.

CONSTRUCTION 8 ($31.50)
This course will deal with the use of specific tools in order to complete simple projects. Tools such as stationaries power tools, i.e. drill press, miter saw, and power hand tools such as drills and jig saws will be introduced to students.  Students will use patterns and materials to make different woodworking crafts. Painting techniques will be used to add color and character to projects.

FOOD STUDIES 8 (31.50)
Welcome to the world of Food Studies! Work in our top notch kitchen facilities focuses on basic techniques in food preparation, kitchen techniques and basic baking practices. Students will learn to understand recipes, how to use a variety of kitchen tools and equipment and the function of ingredients through practical experience preparing a variety of recipes.

SPORTS FOR LIFE 8 ($150):
Sports 4 Life is an option class program at OLMP Catholic School that provides students with a variety of off-campus sports and recreation activities in a Catholic environment with the focus on creating life-long active and healthy lifestyles. This is very much an activity based class, so if your child does not enjoy this type of environment, then this might not be a good fit for them.  Please note the fee is higher because we have paid partnerships with community experts who run our sessions.  

YEARBOOK DESIGN 8($31.50)
In Yearbook Option, students will participate in a range of activities including photography, journalism, and yearbook design. How do you take a selfie from "basic" to extraordinary? What interview questions should you ask the captain of the volleyball team? How do you format that information into a newspaper article? How many pictures should you have on a double page spread? Should they all be the same sized picture? What about clipart?!?! All of these questions and more will be answered in Mrs. DeLong's Yearbook Class!"

COMPLEMENTARY COURSE SELECTION
For the complementary course block, students can select French as a Second Language, which runs all year. Students not choosing French as a Second Language will have STEAM 8 for a semester, and then Wellness for Life 8 for the other semester.  

French as a Second Language 8 (FSL 8)
Students wishing to pursue French in high school, must take FSL 7 & 8.  These courses introduce students to the vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation to help students develop in their French language.   FSL 7 is a prerequisite for this course.

Students not taking French as a Second Language will rotate through the following two courses. 

Wellness for Life 8
By exploring careers in the Wellness Field, students learn about the importance of wellness and balance.  They engage in various activities to develop an understanding of the importance of wellness in all aspects of life for maintaining and supporting mental health.

STEAM 8
STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math.  In this class students will engage in challenges that focus on building skills in these areas.
