DSNI Speakers Bureau and Tours: Request Form
Discover the history and future of community organizing in the Dudley neighborhood of Boston through interactive tours and discussions, led by DSNI staff!

For over 30 years, Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative (DSNI) has organized residents of Roxbury and Dorchester to build a vibrant, diverse, and high-quality Dudley neighborhood, creating hundreds of affordable homes on land once ravaged by disinvestment, and controlling development to stop displacement. Our community organizing model continues to be a resource and inspiration to activists, academics, and urban planners around the world.

DSNI is proud to share our history, current work, and future plans with visiting groups from schools, nonprofits, and other supporters through our “Speakers Bureau” program. Speakers Bureau visits are led by several DSNI staff members and include a presentation, short documentary screening, and walking tour of the Dudley neighborhood.

Visits can be personalized based on your group’s interests, but a tour typically includes:
-     Affordable homes, parks, and playgrounds on DSNI’s Community Land Trust
-     Partner organizations including Dudley Street Neighborhood Charter School and Kroc Community Center
-     Public space and artwork
-     Gardens and Greenhouses on the land trust and operated by The Food Project

Logistics:

Timing: A typical Speakers Bureau visit is two hours, but we can design longer or shorter visits.  Scheduling is flexible, but the more lead-time we have to plan, the more likely we can make it work.

Location: We gather in the conference room at DSNI’s office at 550 Dudley Street, or at a location of your choosing.

Pricing: There is a fee based on time and group size.  This fee covers staff time, preparation, space usage, printing, and other supplies; additional donations in support of our work are welcome.

Capacity: We typically take groups ranging from 10-30 visitors, but can adjust as needed.

Accessibility: DSNI's office is fully wheelchair accessible. Neighborhood tours typically happen on foot; please let us know if you and/or your guests use wheelchairs or have limited mobility so that we can adjust the tour schedule to accommodate people of all abilities. Multilingual staff are available on a limited basis to host guests who speak Spanish, Portuguese, and Cape Verdean Creole.

We typically ask for a $500 honorarium for a two-hour visit.
We make adjustments based on time commitment and group size, and appreciate when large institutions like universities can offer a larger honorarium. This fee covers staff time, preparation, space usage, printing, and other supplies. DSNI is a small non-profit community organization, and we rely on your generosity to continue our work; additional donations are welcome.
