Identity Development Theory In Action: Practical & Personal Applications

This is the application form to join a 10-week psychoeducation and support group led by Dr. Patty Gently through Bright Insight Support Network. Designed for 2e and other gifted neurodivergent adults, the group focuses on exploring and refining one’s sense of identity, particularly in midlife and other times of transition. The framework will follow Dr. Gently's Identity Development (GEAR) Theory.

Participants will engage with topics such as the intersection of trauma and giftedness, creativity, career transitions, Dąbrowski's Theory of Positive Disintegration, Bronfenbrenner's Bioecological Systems Theory, Erikson's Theory of Psychosocial Development, and more.

Each session will feature:

  • A weekly psychoeducational presentation (with slides),
  • An engaging activity to apply the concepts, and
  • A roundtable discussion to deepen understanding and connection.

I am affirming my commitment to ten weeks of group sessions that focus on psychoeducation about identity development and other developmental psychology topics. I can commit to attending at least seven of the ten sessions and will not miss two in a row unless there is an agreement in writing (email brightinsightadvocate@gmail.com) with the facilitator. This requirement helps us maintain a safe and growth-inducing environment for all group members.  *
I understand that if I pay in advance, I can request a refund up until the week of the first group session. There is not an option for a refund otherwise, unless there are extenuating circumstances discussed with and the refund agreed to by the facilitator. *
I understand that while the facilitator of this group (Dr. Patty Gently) will maintain my confidentiality and she will discuss the importance of confidentiality and privacy within the group, Patty and Bright Insight Support Network are not liable for any breach of confidentiality by group members. Unfortunately, though this is not an anticipated concern, it is a risk of participating in any group. Group members are permitted to make contact (and friendships) outside of the group if the relationship and contact is mutually agreed upon.  *
I understand that this group is considered psychoeducational and socially supportive in nature, and is not intended to replace more intensive forms of therapy. If I am in need of more intensive, individual support, I understand that Bright Insight Support Network offers a free referral service and can support me and these needs within reason.  *
