NEXT HUMC Team Application
As part of Highland United Methodist Church’s commitment to be a welcoming place for all people, the administration is creating a NEXT HUMC team. Members of the congregation who are committed to the future of Highland Methodist, regardless of theological viewpoint, are invited to apply. The team will help articulate views around LGTBQ issues among the congregation, hold conversations around this issue, and help Highland Methodist define its relationship to the United Methodist Church and the greater Wesleyan movement so that we may best make world-changing disciples.

NEXT HUMC team members will be responsible for:
• Organizing educational opportunities.
• Engaging Highland in One-on-one conversations concerning the congregations place in the Methodist tradition and the role of gay men and women in the congregation.
• Conduct surveys and conversations gauging the congregation’s pulse around welcoming of gay men and women and its place in the Methodist tradition.
• Guide Highland Methodist through the process of reaffiliating with a new expression of the Methodist Church, if the congregation is committed to this path.

NEXT HUMC team members must commit to:
• Having an open mind and listening to different viewpoints non-judgmentally.
• The creation of, and adhering to, a shared covenant for their work.
• Regular and frequent strategy meetings.
• Report to and seek guidance of Highland’s administrative council.
• Help Highland Methodist move into a communally agreed upon decision, with a focus on maintaining the unity of the congregation, regardless of any decision.
• Being willing to study and articulate scripture, current culture, and the church in any decision.
• Engaging in regular worship attendance, study, and fellowship events at Highland Methodist.
