The Hampton Roads Naval Museum offers two traveling trunks that can be delivered to your school for one week during the school year. The Civil War Sea Chest contains a variety of Civil War Navy reproductions —objects, photographs, newspapers, uniforms, and more— that you can use to teach the Civil War (with a special focus on the Battle of Hampton Roads) to your students. The Cold War Sea Bag contains Navy-related, Cold War-era artifacts, photographs, newspapers articles, uniforms, and more. The bag especially focuses on the Navy's role in the Vietnam War and includes oral histories from local Vietnam veterans. Both traveling trunks contain detailed guides to using the artifacts and materials in the classroom setting.
If you have questions about the Civil War Sea Chest or the Cold War Sea Bag before booking, please contact Zac Cunningham, School Programs Educator, at hrnmeducation@gmail.com or call (757) 322-2985.
