OCTOBER Order Form
Hello Parents/Guardians of Lucerne School students and Staff too!

Children learn, focus and concentrate best with a full stomach. Having a school breakfast and lunch program is one tool that can help children be the best student they can be.

Together the Healthy Community Society of the North Slocan Valley and Lucerne School has been serving up healthy breakfasts and lunches that aim to appeal to a variety of tastes for over 10 years.  While the program has seen many changes over the years our focus has remained the same. Our breakfast and lunch cooks source quality ingredients like local farm fresh eggs, organic fruits and veggies when available. Organic and or non GMO products like flour, oats, sugar, yogurt, seeds, legumes and grains as well as a portion of our ground meats. Much of the shopping is done locally to support our community and local farmers.

For the 2025/26 school year we will continue to offer nutritious, made from scratch meals as well as incorporating a few lunchtime favourites like a pizza day, hotdog day, burger day or mac & cheese day each month. We will also be incorporating more consistency in our offerings. Mondays will offer Salad Bar Plus, wraps or sandwiches.Tuesdays will be Mexican fare, Wednesdays will provide a pasta dish.  Thursdays offering will fluctuate and Friday's will be soup and homemade bread unless there's a pro-d day in which case soup will be Thursday.

Monthly order forms for lunches are available online.  Printed menus are available in the office and will go home in elementary students' planners before the end of each month. The program is committed to continuing free breakfasts for all and a 'pay what you can' lunch model will be available to all students who may wish to participate. We strongly encourage you to order lunches for your child(ren) so there is adequate time for shopping and meal planning. Limited meals are available on a drop-in basis.

The program is subsidized through the Feeding Futures Funding, however this provincial fund does not cover 100% of the costs to deliver the program but is does allow for a reduction in costs to families. Like many school meal programs in the province and other school districts we are asking $4 or "pay what you can" per lunch per student. This model allows us the privilege of providing higher quality food while keeping the meals affordable.  Lunch payments can be made by etransfer to hcsmealsales@gmail.com or by cheque to the school office in a sealed envelope with your child's name. Payments can be made daily, weekly or monthly to suit your needs.          No cash Please!

The Healthy Community Society and Lucerne School are committed to supporting students who may not access the program due to financial considerations. Please email Mitchell if you wish to access support.

Together the school and the HCS look forward to supporting the well-being of students.
