Rose Island - Artist Residency

**THIS APPLICATION IS NOW CLOSED. ANY ENTRIES SUBMITTED AFTER APRIL 1, 2023 WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. **

The Rose Island Lighthouse and Fort Hamilton Trust invites applications from Rhode Island-based artists working in any medium for a 5-night residency on Rose Island island from September 4 - 9, 2023.

Up to 5 artists will stay in the island’s historic lighthouse buildings, have access to studio spaces located inside late 18th-century barracks, and have the opportunity to be inspired by the island’s natural environment and multi-layered history as they work on a project of their choice. The residency will kick off with a welcome event and tour of the island, and culminate in a public event, during which the residents will interact with visitors and discuss what they have worked on over the past week. Transportation to the island from Fort Adams in Newport, and all accommodation, is included; artists will be expected to provide their own food for the duration of their stay. There is no fee to apply for this residency. Visit RoseIsland.org to learn more about the island.

Additional information presented as Frequently Asked Questions are also linked below and must be read in entirety by all applicants. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

  • Applications close on April 1, 2023
  • Artists will be notified by May 5, 2023
