PEERS® for Young Adults

PEERS® for Young Adults was developed at UCLA and is an evidenced-based social skills intervention for motivated adults (ages 18-35) who are interested in making and keeping friends and/or developing romantic relationships. Participants often experience social difficulties as a result of autism, ADHD, or social anxiety.

Young adults and their social coach (usually a parent/caregiver) attend 14 weekly group sessions for 90 minutes per week.

Young adults will learn about:

  • developing and maintaining friendships
  • conversational skills
  • entering and exiting conversations
  • appropriate use of humor
  • electronic communication
  • dating skills
  • organizing get-togethers
  • handling direct and indirect bullying
  • handling disagreements

Participants learn social skills through straightforward, step-by-step instruction, demonstrations, and practice. Social coaches attend separate sessions simultaneously and are taught how to assist the young adults in making and keeping friends.

Free Balance & Memory Screenings
Join us for balance and memory screenings at our Windsor location. Participants are assessed for fall risk and memory impairments and provided with the completed assessments and referral information, if applicable. Screenings take approximately 15 minutes.

Free Dementia Educational Series

Easterseals Capital Region & Eastern CT, in collaboration with the Alzheimer’s Association, CT Chapter, are presenting a quarterly 4-part Dementia Educational Series for those living with, and caring for someone with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia.

Presented by Alzheimer’s Association, CT Chapter

  • Week 1: 10 Warning Signs/Understanding Alzheimer’s Disease
  • Week 2: Effective Communication Strategies/Understanding and Responding to Dementia Related Behaviors

Presented by Easterseals Capital Region & Eastern CT

  • Week 3: Activities of Daily Living and Community Mobility
  • Week 4: Coping for Caregivers

Living with Alzheimer's for Caregivers

Easterseals Capital Region & Eastern CT is hosting the Alzheimer's Association, Connecticut Chapter, for their education program, Living with Alzheimer's. This is a multi-part series of programs containing sections for:

  • people with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia,
  • care partners (in the early stage) or caregivers (in the middle and late stages), and
  • people with younger-onset and their care partners.

Topics include: Symptoms of Middle Stage, Communication, Relationship Changes, Providing Personal Care, Preparing for Hospitalizations, Behavior Chances, Medication Management, Home Safety, Driving, Living Alone, Wandering, Day Services, In-Home Care Services, Senior Living Options, and Caregiver Needs.
