Immigrant Liaison Survey
TeachDream, the United Federation of Teachers, the New York State Youth Leadership Council, Teachers Unite, and MORE-UFT ask Chancellor Fariña and the NYC DOE to create an Immigrant Liaison position in every NYC public school. This would be an official role designed to provide resources and support to immigrant students and their families.
As we work to create this position, we want to know what is already being done, and what additional support immigrants student, families, and their teachers could use.
To that end, we ask that you fill out this about your current experiences at a NYC DOE school.
What is your role in your school?
What borough do you work in?
What school district do you work in?
What school do you work in?
What work is being done at your school at the REQUEST of your school's administration in order to support immigrant students and families? Who is providing this support?
What work is being done at your school to support immigrant students or families that was NOT officially requested by your school's administration? Who is providing this support?
Does your school’s administration provide concrete support for the work being done to support immigrant students and families? If so, how? (per-session, comp time, leadership roles, etc.)
Do you have a Dream Team or immigration rights-focused group for students at your school?
What feedback are you getting from students and families that lets you know whether the work being done to support immigrant students is helpful?
What needs do you see in your school for additional support for immigrant students and families? How do you know these are needs? (conversation with students, conversation with families, events that have happened, etc.)
How could an immigrant liaison provide support at your school for your students, families and staff?
If an immigrant liaison position existed, would you be interested in applying for it? If not, do you think someone else at your school would be interested in applying for this position?
