Trans Allyship Training
Join us on November 10th & 11th from 5:30 PM to 7 PM via Zoom for our Trans Allyship Training presented by Basic Rights Oregon (BRO). You will need to attend both days for the full training. Space is limited.
Basic Rights Oregon is providing a two-day informative training for PFLAG SW WA members and friends to support the inclusion of transgender and gender non-conforming (TGNC) folks. The training will focus on developing the language and understanding one may need to engage with TGNC people in a validating and inclusive way.
BRO's training opens with a review, and deconstruction, of dominant societal assumptions around gender and sex. We'll examine the ways that oppression of TGNC people is enshrined in culture, laws, and institutions, and how it is perpetuated. Throughout, they demonstrate to participants the unique and impactful role attendees play in improving the lives of TGNC people.
The second half of BRO's training establishes core principles of TGNC inclusion include using correct names and pronouns, use of genderless greetings, interpersonal confidentiality, gracefully correcting one’s own mistakes, signaling a gender affirming environment, and more. Given the unique difficulties faced by transgender people daily, BRO's trainers will provide guidance and best practices for overcoming those barriers and navigating unfriendly systems.
All of BRO’s trainers are themselves transgender and/or gender non-conforming.
*We reserve the right to decline registrations due to this event's maximum size limitation or to ensure participant's safety.
