Submitting an application does not obligate you to adopt nor does it guarantee the animal will be adopted to you. Tail Waggers works to place the dog in the best matched home and does not work on a first come first serve basis. Applications are reviewed and based on the information we attempt to place the dog where we think the dog will do the best. An animal is a lifelong commitment. They will require regular veterinary care including yearly vaccinations. Dogs will require the following vaccines/tests/medications for the rest of their lives: Rabies (1 year or 3 year vaccines), DHLPP (to protect against Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Parainfluenza virus and Parvovirus), Heartworm test (transmitted to dogs through mosquitos) and monthly heartworm pills. Other vaccinations that may be recommended are Bordetella (kennel cough), Lyme (to protect against Lyme disease which is transmitted to dogs through ticks), and the Influenza vaccine. The costs for these vaccines/tests/medications can be $300 or more per year per animal. Tail Waggers’ dogs, unless otherwise stated, come with age-appropriate vaccines, sterilization, and have been deemed healthy by a licensed veterinarian. The future health of any animal is impossible to predict; therefore, we cannot guarantee the future health of any of our animals. Animals not of age to be fully vaccinated or spayed/neutered will be placed in their new home on a foster to adopt basis. The adoption will be finalized upon spay/neuter. We cannot guarantee the age and breed of our rescue dogs. We depend on our veterinarians and other professionals to help us make the best determination/estimate regarding the breed and age of all our animals unless in an unusual circumstance we have some written documentation that has accompanied the animal from the shelter. If you do not hear from us within 10 days of submitting your application please email Tail Waggers at
adopt@tailwaggers1990.org. All other animals in the home, must be spayed or neutered and current on vaccinations. The only exception to this rule is if the animal cannot be altered or vaccinated for health reasons, which must be verified by the owner’s vet. Our adoption process also involves a home visit which, depending on where you live in relation to home visit volunteers, can take some time. To become an approved adopter with Tail Waggers you must pass a vet check and an approved home visit. Tail Waggers reserves the right to deny any application without explanation.
