The installation of Sean Desiree's debut public art piece, BEAM ENSEMBLE is taking place August 24, 2021. It is a commission by More Art and will be taking place in Crotona Park in the Bronx. Sean will be using the installation day as an opportunity to teach the community about the basics of timber framing and how it can be used in public art. Timber framing and post and beam construction is a distinctive traditional method of building homes. One of the most defining elements of a timber frame is its unique joinery. Timbers are joined together via mortises and tenons, then secured with wooden pegs.
There will be space for 5-10 participants, with preference given to Bronx residents, people of color, and TLGBQ people, but all are welcomed to apply.
All of the timbers have been pre cut and semi constructed, so there will be no use of power tools. Participants will join in reassembling the structure. Because of the weight of the timbers participants have to be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
For anyone not selected for the workshop you are welcomed to attend the opening taking place on August 26, 2021.
