Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID) is a college readiness system that is designed to increase the number of students who enroll and graduate from four-year colleges/universities.
In AVID, students receive…
- Challenging and rigorous instruction, emphasizing writing, reading, inquiry, collaboration, and organization
- Academic support from college tutors through collaborative small groups.
- Opportunities to participate in enrichment activities, such as college field trips, guest speakers.
- Strategies for organization, studying, note-taking, and critical thinking.
- Constant encouragement and motivation to pursue academic excellence by teachers, tutors, and peers.
In AVID, students are expected to…
- Enroll in academically rigorous classes that prepare them for high school and college.
- Maintain at least a 2.0 GPA (“C” average), without D’s or F’s.
- Maintain satisfactory behavior and citizenship.
- Spend time nightly studying and completing assignments/homework/projects.
- Come prepared for class – having completed assignments, required school supplies, and other materials.
- Check grades and assignments regularly on PowerSchool and Schoology.
- Demonstrate leadership – academically and socially.
