On May 8th, the MIT administration issued interim suspensions to over 20 MIT community members for their participation in peaceful protest against MIT's ties to the Israeli Ministry of Defense. The discipline includes
- Ban from all academic and research activity
- Suspension of employment and related pay
- Immediate eviction from on-campus housing and ban from dining halls
- Ban from being present on campus
- Block on registration for future semesters
For unionized graduate workers, this discipline is in direct violation of both our union contract and federal labor law, which protects the right to protest in the workplace.
WE AS MEMBERS OF THE MIT COMMUNITY WILL NOT STAND FOR THESE UNJUST, UNFAIR, AND ILLEGAL DISCIPLINE CHARGES.
We demand the MIT administration to (1) immediately reverse all discipline handed out to peaceful protesters since October 2023 and (2) refrain from issuing any additional discipline to MIT community members for exercising their right to peaceful protest.
