CASE 1: The author (and translator of your version if existent) has (or both have) died before 1954. In that case the story should be free to be read.

CASE 2: This is not the case, but the author of your story is an US american and the story was published before 1964. Then your story could often be free to read. We will check that for you.

CASE 3: Both is not the case. Then you have to contact the publisher or author (and eventually translator) and ask via mail if they hold the copyright and if we could read the story at our event for free.
