It is an honor, privilege, responsibility, and commitment to be a High School Leader for Outdoor Lab. Students who are Juniors and Seniors (occasionally Sophomores) have the unique opportunity to serve as high school leaders. While at the week-long program (4 days), High School Leaders help 6th graders learn about science, history, and mountain ecosystems, among other things. For the leaders themselves, they learn skills in communication, critical thinking/problem solving, self-direction, personal responsibility, and stewardship. To many of the 6th grade students at Outdoor Lab, the most important person is the High School Leader, as they serve as guides, teachers, friends, advisers, and a source of inspiration. In order to fulfill these expectations, the High School Leader must be emotionally mature, use good judgement, and demonstrate a natural love and respect for children and the environment.
You must meet the minimum following qualifications in order to apply to be a High School Leader:
1. 2.0 GPA or higher (This may vary at different high schools -For example, Lakewood HS requires a minimum GPA of 2.5)
