Brown Market Shares Spring 2019 Full-Cost Sign-Up

Brown Market Shares Program connects the Brown and neighboring communities with weekly shares of local, sustainably-grown food. This spring season, we are offering produce shares as well as additional shares of dairy, eggs, bread, mushrooms, and meat.

BMSP offers both full-cost and subsidized shares to make fresh, local produce accessible to all members of the Brown, RISD, and College Hill communities. By offering lower-cost share options, weekly payment plans, and direct contact with our Finance Coordinator, the Subsidized Program works to cut across financial and communication barriers that might otherwise prohibit potential shareholders from joining the program.

Our subsidized program is only available to Brown staff, faculty, and graduate students. Undergraduate students are not eligible for subsidized shares (more information on why this is can be found here:

We are excited to announce a new half-share option for undergraduate students at Brown and RISD this spring! We aim to appeal to those living in dorms with limited kitchen space or on a partial meal plan. This new option will be offered as three or four items each week. The items will be selected by our purchasing coordinator and will be those thought of as easier or friendlier to use, such as apples, carrots, or kale, for example. More information is included later on in this sign-up.

The Spring Market Share will run for 10 weeks from February 14th - April 25th (excluding the week of Spring Break, March 28th). Distribution will take place each Thursday on College Hill at the Brown/RISD Hillel (80 Brown St.) from 12 - 6pm.

***All participants must purchase at least one produce share.***
The spring share is hearty, colorful, and delicious!

Here is a sample share for a week in February:
1 bunch kale
1 lb sweet potatoes
1 bunch leeks
1 delicata squash
1 lb turnip
1 bunch collard greens
1 bunch radishes

Here is a sample share for a week in March or April:
1 lb onions
1 lb rhubarb
1 bunch swiss chard
1 lb potatoes
1 lb broccoli
1 bag pea greens
4 apples

Other seasonal produce may include beets, carrots, parsnips, asparagus, arugula, garlic, fennel, and herbs!

We also include two specialty items each season, which may include maple syrup, kimchi, granola, salsa, applesauce, pickles, or honey. All specialty items are prepared by our farmers or other regional businesses with locally-sourced ingredients.
